This Viral Dumpling Lasagna is a delicious fusion dish combining the flavors of classic dumplings with the comforting layers of a lasagna. Made with ground chicken, aromatic ginger and garlic, and layered between softened dumpling wrappers, this dish can be steamed or baked for a moist or firmer texture. It’s perfect for an easy dinner, make-ahead meals, or satisfying leftovers, garnished with chili oil, sesame seeds, and green onions for a spicy, crunchy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 200g (about 1 cup) ground chicken
  • ½ cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • ½ teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Assembly & Garnish

  • 1214 dumpling wrappers
  • Chili oil, for drizzling
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Optional: sliced green onion, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, thoroughly mix the ground chicken, finely chopped cabbage, grated garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until well combined for a flavorful filling.
  2. Soften Dumpling Wrappers: Briefly microwave or steam dumpling wrappers to make them pliable and easy to layer without tearing.
  3. Assemble Layers: Grease the ramekins to prevent sticking. Place one softened dumpling wrapper on the bottom, spoon a portion of the filling evenly over it, then add another wrapper on top. Repeat layering 3 to 4 times, finishing with a dumpling wrapper on the top layer.
  4. Cook the Lasagna: Cover the ramekins tightly with foil. For steaming, steam for 20 minutes until cooked through and moist. Alternatively, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes to achieve firmer edges and a baked texture.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the foil carefully. Drizzle chili oil over the top, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and add sliced green onion if desired. Serve hot directly in the ramekins for an individual portion.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill each dumpling layer—a spoonful is sufficient to ensure even cooking and neat layers.
  • Chili oil adds a spicy depth and enhances the dish’s flavor profile, but adjust to your heat preference.
  • The steaming method keeps the lasagna moist and tender while baking results in firmer edges and a slightly drier texture.
  • This dish is excellent for leftovers and can be prepared ahead of time for convenience.
