Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Base

  • 227 grams (1 tube, 8 ounces) refrigerated rolled crescent dough

Sauce and Cheese

  • 80 milliliters (1/3 cup) prepared pizza sauce, plus extra for serving
  • 60 grams (1/2 cup) shredded mozzarella cheese

Pizza Filling

  • 24 slices pepperoni

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 large fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 200°C (392°F) so it’s hot and ready by the time your assembled dough is prepared.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough and separate it along the perforated lines. Cut each triangle lengthwise in half to yield 16 smaller triangles.
  3. Arrange the Dough Base: Overlap two sheets of parchment paper to create a 60-centimeter long strip. Lay the dough triangles upright in a row with their points facing up and bases slightly overlapping. Gently press where they overlap to seal them together into a single strip.
  4. Add Sauce and Toppings: Spread approximately 4 centimeters wide of pizza sauce over the thickest part of the dough strip. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly on top, then place the pepperoni slices in a single layer across the cheese.
  5. Form the Candy Cane Shape: Fold the pointed ends of the dough over the pizza filling and tuck the edges underneath securely to seal in the filling. Carefully curve the upper end leftward to form the signature candy cane shape that fits the length of your baking tray.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Transfer the shaped dough on the parchment to the back side of a baking sheet. Sprinkle sesame seeds generously over the top.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the dough turns golden brown and the cheese melts beautifully.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, tuck fresh basil leaves into the bend of the candy cane to mimic a decorative bow. Slice the pizza candy cane and serve warm with additional pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Keep the crescent dough refrigerated and cold while handling; this makes it easier to shape and seal without tearing.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and to help transfer the dough easily to the baking sheet.
  • Ensure to seal the overlaps well to prevent any filling leakage during baking.
  • Adjust baking times slightly if your oven runs hot or cool, monitoring until golden and cheese melts.
  • Always verify allergen information on packaged ingredients if serving guests with allergies.
