A deliciously rich and savory Miso Butter Salmon recipe that combines the umami flavors of white miso paste with creamy butter, ginger, and garlic. This dish is easy to prepare and can be cooked using either the oven or an air fryer, resulting in perfectly caramelized salmon fillets with a flavorful miso butter topping. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Salmon

  • 4 Salmon fillets, 6 oz each

Miso Butter

  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons White miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh ginger, grated
  • 12 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions, sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Prepare Miso Butter: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the softened butter, white miso paste, brown sugar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sliced green onions. Use a spatula to thoroughly mash and mix all ingredients together until smooth and well incorporated.
  2. Apply Miso Butter to Salmon: Divide the prepared miso butter equally over each salmon fillet. Using a butter knife or offset spatula, spread the butter evenly over the entire surface of each piece.
  3. Oven Cooking (Optional): Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the salmon fillets in a large skillet or baking dish. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the salmon is opaque and almost cooked through. Then switch the oven to broil on high and broil the salmon for 1-2 minutes to caramelize the top.
  4. Air Fryer Cooking (Optional): Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C). Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper or foil to prevent sticking. Place the salmon fillets inside the basket and cook for 9-10 minutes without flipping.
  5. Serve: Transfer the cooked salmon fillets to a platter. Drizzle any remaining miso butter over the top. Garnish with additional green onions and toasted sesame seeds if desired. Serve alongside steamed rice and vegetables for a complete and balanced meal.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of miso paste or brown sugar to taste, depending on your preference for sweetness and saltiness.
  • For extra garnish, toasted sesame seeds add a lovely nutty flavor and crunch.
  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing with the miso and other ingredients.
  • If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce or omit the brown sugar.
  • Make sure not to overcook the salmon; it should remain moist and tender with a slightly caramelized top.
  • This recipe is easy to double or halve depending on serving needs.
